Faced with the constant problem of corrosion attack to facilities within the manufacturing plant of Pt. International Nickel Indonesia (INCO), the technical department had been searching for an effective and cost-efficient way to repair some of these corrosion-damaged facilities, and to ensure long-term protection from future corrosion.

Towards the end of 2005, Fyfe Asia’s subsidiary PT FYFE FIBRWAP Indonesia visited the Pt. INCO’s plant in Sulawesi to introduce its FRP Composite System as an effective and cost-efficient method of providing a strengthening and corrosion protection solution to existing structures and facilities damaged by long-term exposure to a corrosive environment. The System caught the attention of the technical department and was readily accepted for repair and corrosion protection to one of their steel fuel tanks. Due to the environment it was in, the roof top of the circular fuel tank was experiencing corrosion.

With further understanding on the conditions and the requirement of the department, a proposal for repair and corrosion protection was provided by Fyfe Asia. The proposal was approved for implementation and manpower was mobilized shortly for the installation. The installation was carried out and completed successfully within a short period of seven days, satisfying the requirements of the client.
