Repair, Strengthening and Protection to existing reinforced concrete structures of jetty facility at PT. Tri Polyta Indonesia with the TYFO^® Fibrwrap^® System

PT. Tri Polyta is one of the leading manufacturers of polypropene in Indonesia’s petrochemical hub. Facing the Java Sea of Indonesia and lying along the coast of Cilegon-Banten, the main platform of this jetty was badly damaged with severe corrosion to the reinforced concrete (RC) structures. Built more than 15 years ago, this jetty facility has facilitated the direct transportation of raw materials and final products to and from this region.

Due to the importance of this jetty and to ensure its continued function, a major structural investigation to check on the condition of the RC members was conducted in the first quarter of 2006. The existing condition of the deteriorated RC members signalled the urgency for the technical department of PT. Tri Polyta to look into an immediate solution to retrofit the jetty and protect it from further deterioration.

The Tyfo^® Fibrwrap^® Systems was introduced by Fyfe Asia’s applicator in Indonesia to retrofit the RC members. The unique features of being light-weight, easy-to-install and most importantly suitable for use in marine conditions placed the Tyfo^® Fibrwrap^® Systems as top favourite over other alternatives. In addition, the economic benefits that could be achieved from the use of the Tyfo^® System satisfied the clients main requirements. Hence, the proposal for retrofit to the RC members by the Tyfo^® Fibrwrap^® Systems was accepted readily by the technical department and management.

As required under the strict guidelines for installation of the Tyfo^® Fibrwrap^® Systems, the existing defective concrete and corroded steel reinforcement were removed and then reinstated before the installation of the system. The project was completed within the required time frame to the satisfaction of the client.
