The Dongjiang River is a major freshwater source for Hong Kong, and the water from this river is imported through the Muk Wu Pumping Station. The existing steel pipes were found to have deteriorated after years of service and required rehabilitation.

With pipe sizes larger than 2 meters in diameter, common rehabilitation methods such as close fit lining and cured-in-place pipe were technically difficult and expensive. The TYFO® Fibrwrap® lay-in-situ Composite System was thus selected as the cost effective and permanent lining by the client Wo Hing Construction Co. Ltd. and the Water Supplies Department of Hong Kong.

The scope of works included the following:

• Surface preparation to existing pipes.

• Installation of the TYFO® Fibrwrap® Composite System to the steel pressure water pipes.

• Application of a finish system coat.
