Raffles City stands on 30,630 square meters of prime land at the heart of the Central Business District of Singapore. With gleaming aluminium façade, the high-rise office towers project an image of modern sophistication. The towers offer space that is almost totally column-free facilitating the flexibility of design and layout. Retrofitting works were carried out on several levels of this building during an upgrading exercise conducted in 2006 to create more retail space in anticipation of growth in the country’s economy.

The Tyfo® Fibrwrap® System was proposed to be used to increase the load carrying capacity of the beams in the very difficult site conditions with obstructions and existing services. This method is a viable way to address the needs of strengthening to the affected beams as well as suitable in space constraint areas. The Tyfo® SEH 51A and SCH 41 together with Tyfo® S Epoxy were successfully installed and completed within a short duration of time.

In this project, both the technical and cost aspects of the method adopted satisfied the requirement of the client. No changes in the shapes and aesthetics to the structural members were necessary as well.
