Structural Strengthening to Swire Bridge and Structural Health Monitoring at the University of Hong Kong using the TYFO^® Fibrwrap^® Composite System

The Swire Bridge is located inside the University of Hong Kong and is the main access to a number of campus buildings. Built in 1970s, the old design standard could not fulfil the latest loading requirements thus improvement works were required to upgrade the bridge to existing Highways Standard. Structural strengthening using Tyfo^® UC55^® composite was designed by FYFE Hong Kong and approved by the Buildings Department.

The scope of works included the following:-

• Structural strengthening to bridge deck using the Tyfo^® 4UC55 Composite System

• Verification load tests before and after strengthening works

• Long term structural health monitoring using optical sensors
