In line with the thrust of the Philippine Government to improve the quality of bridges and spur the economic development, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has developed program to improve its quality. It has undertaken a major maintenance and rehabilitation/ reconstruction program for roads and bridges in the Philippines.
In the Province of Agusan del Sur alone, over 50 bridges have been surveyed and assessed in order to know the serviceability and longevity of each structure. One of those is Adgawan Bridge. Results of surveys showed that the Adgawan Bridge required strengthening as a result of concrete deterioration over time.
The DPWH had been introduced to the FYFE Asia’s FRP Composite Systems and its various applications particularly on bridges with defects in need of structural strengthening. The Agawan Bridge deck and girders have been strengthened for shear and flexure with the FYFE Asia’s Composite Systems.
In 2014, as part of this continuing program, over 30 bridges in the Philippines have been strengthened with the Systems.
