The project included construction of a dual two-lane carriageway from Cheung Pei Shan Road to Castle Peak Road, in Hong Kong. The bridge portion at Discovery Park was built at the time of residential complex development in the 1990s.

After a review of traffic conditions, before construction of the remaining portion of the carriageway, the speed limit was increased. Strengthening of the existing bridge was required in order to accommodate additional dead load brought on by an increase in new road surfacing thickness, a result of the speed limit adjustment. FYFE (Hong Kong) Ltd proposed the use of the TYFO® Fibrwrap® System to strengthen the existing bridge deck, and the method and system were adopted by the client.

The scope of works included the following:

• Beam Structural Testing and Verification.

• Hammer tapping surveys to identify defective areas for concrete repair.

• Removal of defective concrete and concrete surface preparation.

• Application of the TYFO® SCH7-UP Fibrwrap® Composite System to slam soffit for an increased loading capacity.

• Application of a fire resistant coating.
