The Paya Lebar MRT Station (EW8/CC9), aged 19 years, has been as a Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) interchange station on the East West Line and on the future Circle line in Singapore. The Circle Line will be the fourth Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line and It will be the world’s longest fully automated metro line.

As the name implies, it will be an orbital line linking all radial lines leading to the city It will also will cover many parts of the Central Area.

At this MRT station, they found out that some of the beams need repairing and strengthening after the structural investigation. FYFE Asia was approached, based on its track record as a committed solution provider for structural strengthening, to provide a solution to the problem.

The existing structure was analysed and designed for strengthening by FYFE Asia to cater for the new imposed loads. As it is easy to install and with its unique feature of light-weight and high-strength, the Tyfo® Fibrwrap® System was proposed for this strengthening. Both the technical aspects and the cost of the strengthening satisfied the requirement of the client and the proposal was accepted.

The strengthening works to the beams were implemented with least disruption with TYFO® SEH 51A & TYFO® S epoxy. Part of the carpark at the location of the strengthening was temporarily closed at the night to facilitate the strengthening work. The project was successfully completed to the satisfaction of the client.
