The Liang Court Shopping complex is located in the vicinity of Clarke Quay along the Singapore River. Built in 1984 and after 20 years in service, there is a need for upgrading and rejuvenation in order to ensure its relevance which necessitates prolonging its durability and preserving the integrity of the structure.
After assessing the situation and conducting a comprehensive and effective study into the various aspects of this project, the TYFO® Fibrwrap® Composite System was proposed for improving the load carrying capacity of the beams, slabs and columns over other traditional strengthening methods. With its composite technology derived from the aerospace industry, rendering it as a light-weight and strong material, it was the clear choice over other methods, on top of its speed and ease of application under difficult site conditions. TYFO® SEH 51A and TYFO® SCH 41 systems were successfully installed together with TYFO® S Epoxy to the members of the structure to cater for the required strengthening.
The strengthening works using the TYFO® Fibrwrap® Composite system to 89 beams, 127 slabs and 51 columns were completed within less than one year following closely to the Main Contractor’s programs.
