Siriraj Hospital Preservation and Upgrading with the TYFO® Fibrwrap® System

Siriraj Hospital, an 80-years-old heritage building was earmarked for conservation by the Thai government. It was the first hospital built in Thailand by King Ananda Mahidol, father of the present King Bhumiphol Adulyadej. During the design stage, there were no records of the structural details and drawings of the building. All structural plans and details had to be established through structural investigation which included in-situ live load testing and concrete core testing. The existing slabs and columns were then designed and strengthened using the Tyfo^® Fibrwrap^® Systems to support the increased dead and live loading.

The entire project took 10 months to complete and the scope covered structural investigation, interior design, structural design, structural strengthening and re-furnishing of the building for its new role as the hospital’s administration building. The strengthening work involving Tyfo^® Fibrwrap^® Systems was completed in a short duration of 1 month. The Tyfo^® Fibrwrap^® System was ideal for strengthening to this heritage building as conventional strengthening techniques were not able to meet the conservation requirement of the Thai government.
