During the Manmad to Daund line Indian Central Railways Electrification Project, new mast foundations and masts were being laid and erected over the stone masonry piers of Narandi, Pravara, Mula, Jamgaon Nalla and Bhima River bridges. The increase in loads necessitated the strengthening of the stone masonry pier caps at various locations.

Due to its international certifications and 30 year track record, FYFE Asia’s Carbon FRP Composite System was used to confine and strengthen the stone masonry pier caps and conformed to the drawings and specifications of the engineering department on record. The surfaces of the pier caps were prepared with epoxy grouting and suitable high strength polymer modified mortars prior to the wrapping with the Composite System.

The successful use of the Composite System in this project demonstrates the effectiveness in using engineered composites to upgrade important infrastructure.
