This bridge in New Delhi, India was built in 1981 as part of the Asian Games projects. Over the years, wear and tear, increased traffic loading and environmental deterioration resulted in a need to restore and strengthen the load carrying capacity of the girders.

Rectification work included traditional repair techniques such as epoxy injection to seal up all cracks as well as polymer cement grouting to remediate the honeycombing and restore the surface profile of the girders.

FYFE Asia’s FRP Composite System was then used to enhance the flexural and shear strength of the girders by wrapping the structural element with the high strength FRP system. A further advantage of the system is that it also provides corrosion protection to the wrapped elements.

The successful use of FYFE Asia’s Composite System in this project demonstrates the effectiveness and speed in using engineered composites to upgrade important infrastructure.
