Rehabilitation of this pressurized water main was a very challenging project. Rehabilitation was required for five 1200mm diameter to 1500mm diameter water mains inside the Lion Rock Tunnel, totaling 7.5 km. The busy traffic conditions made it impossible to implement any prolonged road closure in the tunnel area, rendering all conventional pipe rehabilitation techniques unfeasible.
Being light and easy to handle and without the need of road closure, the FYFE Asia’s FRP Composite System was selected as an internal structural lining to theses water mains.
The scope of works included the following:-
• Survey for exiting pipe conditions.
• Pipe rehabilitation design.
• Internal surface preparation to existing pipes.
• Internal installation of the FYFE Asia’s Composite System.
